St. Michael's is recruiting new volunteers who want to become Altar Servers. Youth who have received First Communion and attend Mass regularly are welcome to serve. Training is held on the third Saturday of each month at 11:00am. Please call the office to confirm it is scheduled as often the training meetings are moved due to other church events or clergy conflicts. Additional training and meetings throughout the year are expected to be attended. The Altar Server dress code is requried as well. ( check link below)
Our parish is deeply grateful for the commitment of our Altar Servers; their service and dedication are an important part of our parish life. The place of the Altar Server in liturgical celebrations remains one of prominence and distinction, and therefore, our Altar Servers learn all matters concerning liturgical worship and strive to grasp their inner spiritual meaning. Their role, through assisting the priest and deacon, is to bring the assembly to a fuller understanding of the liturgy and a greater love for God.
Altar servers serve at all weekend liturgies and special celebrations throughout the year, such as weekday morning masses, funerals, and memorial masses. The various tasks of an altar server usually include assisting with the book of prayers when the Presider reads from it, carrying the processional cross and candles, setting up and restoring the altar and perhaps assist in cleaning up after Mass. The main task of the server is to model liturgical prayer with grace and reverence and enter whole-heartedly into the public worship of the community. Altar servers are expected to be familiar with the ebb and flow of liturgy, to anticipate each movement, cue and need.
